Short Profile of the Person: Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf Abdel Hamid is Program Manager – Environment research at the Gulf Research Center (GRC), Dubai. He has a doctorate in environmental sciences from Ain Shams University in Egypt and has undergone advanced course in environmental management at the Augsburg University, Germany.

Dr. Raouf contributed a chapter titled "State of the Environment in GCC Countries" to the Gulf Yearbook 2006-2007. He was a part of the project team which prepared the Green Gulf Report (2006). He published a book (2007) titled " Economic Instruments as an Environmental Policy Tool: The Case of GCC Countries" all published by the GRC. He published a policy brief titled “Climate Change Threats, Opportunities and GCC Countries’ by the Middle East Institute in Washington DC, April 2008. His main areas of interest are environmental policy and economics in the Arab World.

The GRC was founded in July 2000 by Mr. Abdulaziz Sager, a Saudi businessman, who realized that in a world of rapid political, social and economic change, it is important to pursue politically neutral and academically sound research about the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and disseminate the knowledge obtained as widely as possible.
