Abstract:

The practice of architecture may involve brilliant design solutions, but they must also satisfy the needs and desires of the owners, the facilities staff who will maintain the building once it is built, the funding entities, and of course the end users. The process of including these diverse groups into the design and construction process sometimes can be a challenging task involving data gathering, design solutions, and buy-in from the project stakeholders that require a disciplined approach, creative solutions, and a good bit of human interaction skills.

However, successful stakeholder involvement can produce a much more successful design solution, a more satisfied client, and fewer challenges for the design professional during the construction process. 

 This presentation attempts to define the process, help identify the stakeholders, and discuss the means and methods for successfully pulling together and gaining consensus on the project design through the design and construction process to achieve a successful outcome. 

 The presentation will identify project stakeholders, describe the inclusion process from data gathering to post construction, and discuss the value of the outcome of a successful stakeholder integration into the design process.
