Abstract:
"Now change the perspective. Look forward instead of backward and the creation of value is revealed to exist in the future, i.e. the time line and your management of the future ‘‘space’’ from the next few seconds to eternity" (Edvinsson, 2002).
Innovation is the real challenge a head for our region, as we are lagging in innovation, we are disparately willing for new ideas to establish and foster knowledge transfer and spill off in our Arabian cities.
Ron Diver explored an ‘‘urban innovation engine’’ is a term used to describe a system which can trigger, generate, foster, and catalyze innovation in a city. Typically, it can be used to explain a co-evolving complex system that includes the interactions between people, relationships, values, processes, tools, and technology, physical and financial infrastructures, from which emerges novelty, spontaneity, and creativity.
A. Overall Presentation Goal
The purpose of this Presentation is to draw the participant attention to the criticality and the importance of designing and creating a group of urban innovation engine for our Arabian city, to understand the success factors of an urban innovation engine approach worldwide, and how this success can be replicated systematically in the implementation and development of such a concept in our region from the perspective of the Arabian architects and planner.
At the end of this seminar, the Participant should be able to identify or understand:
- Innovation Age challenge
- The position of our cities with the global innovation network
- The uniqueness and the originality of our Arabian urban innovation engines
- The challenges ahead for our Arabian architect to establish such a community
- A group of Fundamental skills to be obtained by our young architects and planners
Short Profile:
Dr. Mohamed Shokry is an assistant professor of architecture and design. He received his Masters and Ph.D. in Architecture from Cairo University, Egypt in 2003, 2009 respectively. Dr. Shokry's Ph.D. thesis entitled “A PROPOSED URBAN MODEL TO ACTIVATE THE ROLE OF HEIs IN URBAN REGIONS DEVELOPMENT”. It focuses on developing some urban planning policies and tools to enhance the role of universities as catalysts for economical and urban development within large cities, especially in the Middle East region. Dr Shokry has taught Architecture and Design in Egypt between 1999 and 2010.Also, he worked as an Architect, Senior Designer and Manager of medical projects design in ZFP firm between 2003 and 2010. He is currently teaching courses in capstone preparation, capstone project and Design Studios at Effat University, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Mohamed's main concern now is to pass on his practical experience of design to younger architects as well as to develop educational courses that reflect these concepts to the architectural students. His research interests include regional planning theories, urban economy and city planning. |
