Short Profile:

Ms Amer is currently working as a consultant to Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) to help develop the Abu Dhabi Building Code based on the International Building Codes.

Since 2009, DMA has been pursuing this strategic initiative to review the current state of regulations governing the construction of buildings and introduce a more comprehensive and updated construction codes.  With this initiative, DMA seeks to balance the interests of stakeholders throughout the Emirate in pursuit of advancing Safety, Savings, and Sustainability. 

Before DMA, Fatma held the position of First Deputy Commissioner of New York City Department of Buildings serving the City of New York and the construction industry for over 25 years.  During which, she head many monumental projects and initiatives that impacted New York and led to safer construction practices, mainly:

• The overhaul of the 40 year old NYC Building Code and the adoption of the new Construction Codes in 2008 based on the International Building Codes
• The  Study and Implementation of the High Risk Construction Oversight Program which identified means to improve safety during construction of high-rise buildings in the areas of Concrete Operations, Excavation, Cranes and Hoists. 

Fatma is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York, USA and received her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cairo University in Egypt.
