Short Profile of the Person:

Dr. Mokhtar has a Master and PhD degrees in Building Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. His bachelor degree is in Architecture from Cairo University, Egypt. He worked as an architect and a design coordinator with large Middle East consultant before starting his academic career as an assistant professor at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA. He later joined the American University of Sharjah (AUS) to teach in the architecture program.

Because of his combined background in architecture and building engineering, Dr. Mokhtar is focusing his teaching on design applications of building sciences, environmental control systems in buildings, building construction systems, and computer applications in buildings construction. In teaching architecture students, he puts great emphasis on the integration of the different building systems and the consideration for constructability in architecture design.

As it was the subject of his doctoral thesis, Dr. Mokhtar is very knowledgeable in the strategic use of Information Technology and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to manage the multidisciplinary design and construction process and insuring its efficiency.

Dr. Mokhtar is a LEED Accredited Professional and uses his background to propose effective sustainability solutions that integrate architecture design with various building systems designs. The same background allows him to communicate smoothly with the different disciplines involved in a design and coordinate their effort.

In term of leadership and teamwork capabilities, Dr. Mokhtar led a team of 90 faculty, staff, and students as the chair of the steering committee that pursued the American accreditation of the American University of Sharjah. Dr. Mokhtar also served as president of AUS faculty senate and dealt with variety of personnel issues and policies.
