Short Profile of the Person:
Ginger Krieg Dosier is an American Assistant Professor of Architecture at the American University of Sharjah, College of Architecture, Art and Design, where she teaches core architecture design studios and seminars covering emerging material technologies. Prior to arriving at AUS in 2007, Krieg Dosier was a Visiting Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University, in the United States.

Over the past eight years she has devoted research in the choreography of architectural materiality with an environmental focus, engaging in co-research forums and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Her research goes beyond the material aesthetic, seeking a scientific understanding of the properties of material in relation to architectural performance. Her work has been exhibited in venues across the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Germany, and has been published in a variety of journals including: Metropolis Magazine, Architectural Record, and Clay Technology.

She received the Next Generation Award from Metropolis Magazine in May of 2010 for her research on masonry grown with microbiologically induced calcite precipitation. Her winning invention seeks to provide an alternative to traditional high-embodied energy clay and concrete masonry for global application.

Krieg Dosier received her Masters of Architecture in 2005 from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her thesis, entitled ‘Material Choreography’ utilized salt and calcium carbonate for making temporary architectural materials, employing additives for neutralizing the negative effects of salt in the soil. She received a Bachelor of Interior Design from Auburn University, where she participated in Rural Studio for the construction of full-scale, experimental dwellings for local impoverished families.

Krieg Dosier’s professional experience includes work with the United States Army of Corps of Engineers, Obra Architecture in New York City, Fleetwood Industries in Philadelphia, PA, and Little Design Lab in Durham, NC.

She is also currently a founding partner for the architecture research office VergeLabs, whose research
addresses topics of net-positive sustainability, performative material architectures, and rapid
manufacturing.
