Abstract:
This presentation will show a very cost effective methodology of using a lighting designer for large scale developments. The methodology will be explained from an existing project in KSA for the municipality of Dammam, King Abdullah Civic Centre. The project consists of a 530,000 sq. meter development on reclaimed land in the bay of Dammam. It is a mixed use development with parks, conference halls, shopping malls, hotels, amphitheater, museum etc.
Studio Lite is the lighting designer for all outdoor areas, Zuhair Fayez the architect, the municipality of Dammam the client.
The methodology
Studio Lite has designed a concept and design vision for the area. After this we zoomed in on key areas and designed the typical lighting layout and product selection to handle the vastness of the project. By doing this we provided the architects with detailed snapshots of each key area that could be implemented throughout the whole area. It’s like a recipe book where the lighting designer gives the architect the ingredients and the architect can bake the cake, with some assistance from the designers.

Juliet’s approach to lighting is inspired by natural lighting examples discovered in everyday life. Daylight is dynamic, it changes colour and intensities, it sparkles and it is the best human light. It is her goal to create inspirational environments with an integrated approach of day light, artificial light and architecture.
