This year’s annual Jeddah Conference is dedicated to the architecture of Jeddah’s traditional heart, the unique historic core and old town “Al Balad”. The objective of the first conference chapter is to expose current conditions of Al Balad as well as possible social, cultural and economic regeneration processes. In collaboration with the Landart Generator Initiative (LAGI), the AIA Middle East and its organizing partners are launching an international design competition based on renewable energy. The competition will aim to give social and economic impetus to development in Al Balad by re-defining public spaces and catering to art, ecology and heritage. The second conference chapter features local and regional architectural developments and projects answering environmental and economic challenges. Debate with and learn from visionary designers and practitioners which have taken on these challenges in the KSA. The third conference chapter presents workshops tackling LEED 201, Core Concepts & Strategies, Structural and Fire Safety in Buildings and Thermal Comfort & Indoor Air Quality providing materials. The conference comprises of three days during which Architecture project presentations as well as professional workshops will be given by practitioners as well as scientists.
