Solar Days

The Solar Days Conference and Training Workshop took place on 20. & 21. April 09

Following Dubai Green and Abu Dhabi Green in 2008, Sesam Business Consultants and Green Technologies FZCO introduce a series of training workshops on sustainability in the UAE. These modular training workshops are envisaged to provide a complete knowledge and understanding of all encompassing topics including the science behind various sustainable technologies, the local and international perspectives and their applicability to the UAE. The series is developed and offered in cooperation with the Canadian University Dubai and is endorsed by the Architecture Association aaUAE.

The first element of the series – Solar Days – concentrated on Renewable Energies with a focus on Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Technologies offering a practical program of educational presentations, open discussions as well as project visits of sites applying solar technology in the UAE.

In order to enhance the dialogue between speakers and audience the organizer introduced an open debate – the “Green Lounge”. Following the presentations speakers and delegates engaged into a moderated discussion on topics such as:

• The role of local fore runners vs. regional cooperation plans with a view to renewable energy systems
• Governmental regulations & the role of Enpark and Masdar
• Chances and hurdles of renewable energy in times of financial disorder
• What effects will Masdar have and what is its future
• How will costs of PV & Solar Thermal develop in the region
